OA HOW Resources Library

Guides, formats, and tools for recovery — available anytime, anywhere.

Welcome to the OA-HOW Houston Resources Library. This collection brings together the foundational tools, questions, and guides that support sponsors and sponsees in working the Twelve Steps through the OA-HOW program. From newcomer packets and food plans to step questions, ceremony formats, maintenance reviews, and recommitment guidance, these resources are designed to make recovery practical and accessible. Each section offers structured readings, reflections, and questions linked to the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous and the Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions. Our goal is to provide an organized, searchable reference to help members and sponsors deepen their spiritual growth, strengthen abstinence, and carry the message of recovery with clarity and purpose.

Meeting Formats

Meeting Format Resources

The OA HOW Meeting Format provides a structured framework to ensure consistency, discipline, and spiritual focus in recovery meetings. It includes:

  • Chapter Five Reading – “How It Works”: An introduction to the program, stressing honesty, willingness, and the spiritual solution to compulsive overeating.
  • The Twelve Steps & Twelve Traditions: Read aloud as the foundation of recovery and group unity.
  • The HOW Concept: Emphasizes a disciplined approach—accepting the food plan, steps, traditions, and tools of recovery as requirements rather than suggestions.
  • The Seven Tools of Recovery: Abstinence, literature and writing, anonymity, phone calls, meetings, service, and sponsorship. Each tool is explained with practical guidance for members.
  • Sponsor Introductions: Sponsors qualify by sharing their abstinence and availability, ensuring newcomers can find guidance.
  • A Vision for You & Just for Today: Inspirational readings that close the meeting, reminding members of spiritual growth and daily renewal.

This format ensures meetings stay focused on recovery, accountability, and service, while offering members a safe and supportive structure to practice the OA HOW program.
